Who’s Who in Kentucky Art's and Crafts

Donita Crain-Woodcock grew up in Munfordville , Kentucky . Donita is a watercolorist, acrylic artist, muralist, illustrator, crafts person, stained glass artisan and a musician who plays piano, flute, drums and is currently learning the guitar.

She says "She started her career as an artist early in life, doing murals on the walls of her bedroom with crayons. Much to her mother’s dismay, and was guided to a more traditional "paper" support for her self-expression!"

Since then, with no formal training, Donita has explored every medium that she has had access to. It has just been in the last couple of years that she has seriously pursued painting in watercolor.

Having had a " Eureka " moment during instruction from Mary Lou Hall, and Nona Atkisson. It was like coming home. She had found her medium! Donita fell in love with the flow and brilliance that watercolors offer.

She has also done plien air acrylics workshop with Robert Hoffman, and Life Drawing Clsses with her friend and mentor, Mary Lou Hall of Elizabethtown, Ky. In 2005, she won several honorable mentions in, realistic, art, collage, drawing and a third place at the Kentucky State Fair in transparent watercolor, upon her first time entering.

In 2006 she captured the Kentucky Watercolor Society's "Best Watercolor of Show" along with two 1st place ribbons, for her painting "Reflections of A.D. & Edna - A Tribute To My Grandparents"

In July and September of 2004, she was named artist of the month in Central Kentucky Arts Guild, in Elizabethtown,Ky. This past December 2005 she was again named artist of the month. Also several times in 2006, she was voted CKAG's Artist of the Month . As a muralist in demand, Donita recently did the large mural in the Munfordville Curves.

Many of her subjects are close-ups of lone flowers or animals. In the singularity of her subjects, she hopes to portray the wonder and awesome beauty of God’s creation.

Locally, Donita’s works have been on display at the State Theater, and other Elizabethtown Business exhibits such as Barnes and Noble, Cobblers Café & State Theater. She is a juried member of CKAG (Central Kentucky Art Guild), and is currently serving as President. She is also a member and treasurer of SCKA&CG (South Central Kentucky Art & Crafts Guild), and a recent member of Louisville Artisains Guild. Donita’s paintings hang in Crain’s Gallery located in Munfordville , Ky. Her paintings also hang in many private collections around the country.

Recently Donita discovered another talent at an Avalon Stained Glass Studio workshop and her first project was an incredible large panel. Since then she has added that to her artistic skills.

Donita says she would love to travel more and expand her art, and to continue growing as an artist..

Donita also teaches sketching; drawing and watercolor workshops and her work can be seen at Crain’s Matting &Framing in Munfordville. E-mail her at;

donita@ky-artist.com for more information on either seeing her work or signing up for a class.
