Ladies Enter "Women In The Arts" Exhibit The Medical Center of Bowling Green, Ky. held it’s 18th annual Women in the Arts Exhibit, April 11th – 13th the exhibit was open to Kentucky women artists only. A private reception for the artist and a guest was held on April 10th at the Medical Center , the awards given were; Special Purchase Award, Merit Awards and Honorable Mention Awards. The juror was Robin Paris, BA, professor at Watkins College of Art and Design, Nashville TN. The art winning the Special Purchase Award, Merit Awards and Honorable Mention Awards were displayed in the Ervin G. Houchens Gallery at the Capitol Arts Center from April 14th -29th. The ladies from the Caveland Artisans Guild that entered the Exhibit were; Teresa Cooper, Harriet Crain, Milena Soukal and Donita Woodcock. The artists and their guests enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Artists’ Reception and awards ceremony. Donita Woodcock won a Merit Award for her watercolor entitled, “Mother Hen.” Which was then displayed along with other winners at the, Ervin G. Houchens Gallery, in the Capitol Arts Center . Donita says, that she is very honored by receiving this award. “There were so many talented artists there with exceptional works of art! It was a wonderful experience as an artist and a women to be recognized in this way!” Also entering were Teresa Cooper (Teresa not in photo), with her entry, “ Paradise .” Harriet Crain, with “ Tuscany ” and Melina Soukal with “An Echo.” CAG meets the Thursday of the month at Crain’s Framing on Lonoke Road Munfordville , Ky. at 6:00pm . Local Artists Enter US Bank
“Celebration of the Arts”
The local art guild, “Caveland Artisans Guild” (CAG), formerly known as South Central Ky Arts & Crafts Guild, is encouraging it’s members to step out and show their art. You may have noticed recent exhibits at various banks around town lately.
“As artists it is more than just showing our work, we show a piece of who we are. Artists put a lot of themselves into their work.”
CAG juried members entered “Celebration of the Arts”, as a group effort. Those entering were; Harriet Crain, Gordon Cottrell, Melina Soukal, Donita Woodcock, some of whom had never entered a competition before. There were 490 entries in the competition, two of our members placed third. Harriet Crain won Third place in the Amateur painting class with her oil painting “
“It was a learning experience and we got to meet other artists. We wish everyone could have won, but just to enter is a honor.” says CAG President Harriet Crain.
CAG has meetings, the last Thursday of the month, and encourages anyone who is interested in arts or crafts to come.

Who’s Who in Kentucky Art's and Crafts
Donita Crain-Woodcock grew up in
She says "She started her career as an artist early in life, doing murals on the walls of her bedroom with crayons. Much to her mother’s dismay, and was guided to a more traditional "paper" support for her self-expression!"
Since then, with no formal training, Donita has explored every medium that she has had access to. It has just been in the last couple of years that she has seriously pursued painting in watercolor.

She has also done plien air acrylics workshop with Robert Hoffman, and Life Drawing Clsses with her friend and mentor, Mary Lou Hall of Elizabethtown, Ky. In 2005, she won several honorable mentions in, realistic, art, collage, drawing and a third place at the Kentucky State Fair in transparent watercolor, upon her first time entering.
In 2006 she captured the Kentucky Watercolor Society's "Best Watercolor of Show" along with two 1st place ribbons, for her painting "Reflections of A.D. & Edna - A Tribute To My Grandparents"
In July and September of 2004, she was named artist of the month in Central Kentucky Arts Guild, in
Many of her subjects are close-ups of lone flowers or animals. In the singularity of her subjects, she hopes to portray the wonder and awesome beauty of God’s creation.
Locally, Donita’s works have been on display at the State Theater, and other Elizabethtown Business exhibits such as Barnes and Noble, Cobblers Café & State Theater. She is a juried member of CKAG (Central Kentucky Art Guild), and is currently serving as President. She is also a member and treasurer of SCKA&CG (South Central Kentucky Art & Crafts Guild), and a recent member of Louisville Artisains Guild. Donita’s paintings hang in Crain’s Gallery located in
Recently Donita discovered another talent at an Avalon Stained Glass Studio workshop and her first project was an incredible large panel. Since then she has added that to her artistic skills.
Donita says she would love to travel more and expand her art, and to continue growing as an artist..
